The Shed Buoy is a Northwest contemporary floating home on Portage Bay, designed to make the most of its distinctive waterfront setting. The home’s clean, modern form is shaped by deep roof overhangs, expansive glazing, and a thoughtful response to the environmental conditions and spatial constraints of life on the water.

Generous outdoor living areas on both levels extend beyond its exterior walls, creating places to relax, entertain, and connect with passing boaters and neighbors. Floor-to-ceiling glass brings natural light deep into the living spaces while maintaining an uninterrupted relationship with the water, shoreline, and surrounding city views.

The design was informed by the homeowners’ program, the site’s environmental context, and stringent view-corridor requirements established by the homeowners’ association. Inside, warm wood finishes, playful color, custom details, and efficient built-ins give the home a welcoming personality while making thoughtful use of every square foot.

The result is a distinctive, light-filled floating home that balances contemporary architecture with comfort, character, and the everyday experience of living on Portage Bay.
