Contemporary Seattle Craftsman

Queen Anne

New Home

Our clients liked elements of the Queen Anne style, but also had an appreciation for Craftsman detailing. They wanted a full Master Suite, adequate space for the kids to live and study, and abundant storage, all in a home that would showcase the views of Lake Union, Downtown, and the Cascade Mountains. They hoped for a welcoming entry and an open floor plan that would offer plenty of interaction, but a degree of privacy, too.

The steeply sloping site was the biggest challenge of this project. The daylight basement guest suite opens onto a patio, which is framed by Craftsman columns that support the home above. This articulation, along with the modulated facade above, helps the house fit the context of the neighborhood, which is a mix of older modestly sized homes and larger newly constructed homes.
