A young couple with deep roots in Snohomish purchased a 9-acre site with meadows and wetlands upon which they hoped to build a colonial home for their future family. They had clear goals for their home and knew how it should take advantage of the unique characteristics of the site: views of a turn-of-the-century barn, the valley, stream and wetlands. Ecco’s schematic studies blended the formality and symmetry of colonial style with the needs of this contemporary family. Georgian and Federal massing & window styles captured the owners' desired views, natural lighting & aesthetic. Ecco staked out a preliminary floor plan on site with survey tape for a “walk through” with the clients. As a team, we were able to modify the location and orientation of the house and rooms, and fine tune window placement. Now twin high chairs sit in the morning sun with a view of the barn, in a regal colonial in the meadow, just as the clients had dreamed. |
